Jade tree.
Of very easy cultivation, Crassula ovata is a classic. In Asia it is called 'Jade Tree', or 'Arber of Prosperity'.
The succulent par excellence, probably the most widespread in the world. Crassula ovata is loaded with stories and symbols. In Asian culture it represents prosperity, it offers itself for great occasions such as marriage, birth or new work, it brings luck and success. It is also called "Money Tree" or "Ecus Trees" because of the rounded shape of its leaves. It is also the "jade tree" because of the color of its leaves reminiscent of Jade's stone.
Crassula ovata is like none. It adapts to all exposures, and all containers. The bigger the pot the more it will deploy its solid frame. Conversely, grown in a small container, it will adapt, will remain small while working its wood and forming a rough structure. Perfect plant to grow in pot bonsai.
Crassula ovata is an exotic plant and fears the cold combined with moisture. When grown outdoors it is imperative to dry it well in October in the coolest regions before the first frosts arrive. It will only take one night exposed to this weather to see its succulent wood loaded with water liquefy.
We recommend distancing waterings, and waiting for the foliage to show the first signs of thirst before proceeding with a substantial watering, because forcing it to draw from its resources allows it to favour the development of its wood and structure rather than that of its foliage which, when it is very or too exuberant, hides its superb structure.
